Tom Larsen Bio

As the principal of Larsen Associates, Tom Larsen has designed and perfected an approach to business that is specifically tailored to the challenges facing architecture and design practices. In more than ten years as a management consultant, he has helped design companies worldwide to address strategic marketing issues, create robust financial management systems and develop breakthrough strategies for long lasting performance improvement.

By debunking perceived wisdom and intuitive business models, he has helped companies of all sizes refocus and achieve spectacular results. In several cases involving very large firms, the share price doubled, and in once instance, actually tripled after adopting his recommended strategies. For a number of award-winning architects, Tom has helped them develop effective strategic marketing plans as well as improve customer retention, profitability and internal satisfaction. With each client, he draws on his training and experience as a management consultant as well as twenty years as an award-winning architect, in both the US and the UK.

Prior to founding Larsen Associates, Tom was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, one of the largest strategy consulting companies, serving the Fortune 1000. While based in London, he served the top 100 construction and construction management companies around the world.

His architectural experience includes four years at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, where he was selected by management to help start their London office, where he trained employees in new systems and fast track building techniques.

At Hurd Rolland in Scotland, Tom designed and supervised construction of the British Golf Museum in St. Andrews, Scotland, and was awarded a Royal Institute of British Architects Award for Design Excellence.

Mr. Larsen holds an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Marketing, Finance and Strategy from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture. He is a passionate advocate of joining business skills with design skills, and enabling designers to become better business people.
